Christopher Michael Russo was born on October 18, 1959, in Syosset, New York. He was the only child of Anthony Michael “Tony” Russo and Vera “Molly” Russo. Chris attended the Darrow School in New York before moving to Orlando, Florida, to attend Rollins College, where he graduated with a degree in history. He also studied Australian history and literature at the University of Sydney.

Prior to joining WFAN, Chris worked for a station in Orlando for three years and for a different New York station for another three years. When he joined WFAN in 1988, he started as an overnight and weekend host. He caught the attention of radio legend Don Imus, who brought Chris in as his sports reporter.
