Kaskade was born Ryan Gary Raddon on February 25, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois. He is the son of Lynda Toliver and Gerald Hollis Raddon, and his brother, Rich, is a film producer and entrepreneur. After graduating from Glenbrook North High School, Kaskade enrolled at Brigham Young University in Utah and honed his DJ skills in his dorm. When he was 19, Kaskade served a two-year mission in Japan with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and when he returned to the U.S. in 1992, he moved to Salt Lake City. There, he earned a communications degree from the University of Utah, and as a college student, he ran a record store, Mechanized, with his friend Jodi Call.
