Robert Greene was born on May 14, 1959, in Los Angeles, California, to Jewish parents. Greene attended the University of California, Berkeley before finishing his degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.A. in classical studies.
He then worked in many jobs including as a construction worker, translator, magazine editor, and Hollywood movie writer, he said that he worked 65 different jobs. In 1995, he worked as a writer at Fabrica, an art and media school in Italy.
