Trey Wingo, whose full name is Hal Chapman Wingo III, was born on September 19, 1963, in Greenwich, Connecticut. He attended high school before enrolling at Baylor University, where he became a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. In 1985, Wingo graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

During his time at the university, he gained valuable experience working alongside fellow ESPN broadcaster Matt Winer at KSDK-TV in St. Louis, Missouri.


Wingo’s career in broadcasting began with NBC News at Sunrise in New York. He then went on to work as the sports director at WMGC-TV in New York from 1988 to 1990.
