Tony David Jeffries was born on March 2, 1985, in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. He started learning boxing when he was 10 years old; his uncle was a professional boxer so he got inspired by him.
Career
After joining Sunderland Amateur Boxing Club in 1999, he won three titles. School Boys’ Championships, gold in the European Cadets in 2001, the juniors of the 2003 YMCA International Cup in New Delhi.
Jeffries was also a semifinalist in the 2003 Junior Brandenburg Cup and 2003 European Junior Championships in Warsaw. He then moved to California, United States, where he continued his training.
In the 2005 Commonwealth Championships, he lost against Shawn Cox, and in the quarterfinals of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, he lost against Kenny Anderson. Jeffries qualified for the 2008 Olympics and won a bronze medal after losing to the Irish Boxer Kenny Egan in the semi-final round.
